Concrete Batching Plants for Tanzania

Concrete Plants for Tanzania's Infrastructure Programme

Tanzania is spending on roads, rail and power at a pace the country has not seen in decades — the standard gauge railway out of Dar es Salaam, the Julius Nyerere hydropower project and trunk road dualling have all pulled ready-mix demand inland, away from the coast.

HZS Global supplies HZS60 to HZS180 batching plants to Tanzanian contractors at factory-direct prices, shipped to Dar es Salaam in 25-32 days. Dar is also the gateway for Zambia, DRC, Rwanda and Burundi, so we routinely arrange transit documentation for landlocked buyers.

Tanzania's Concrete Demand: What Is Actually Driving It

Three things drive demand in Tanzania. Transport first: the SGR line, port expansion at Dar es Salaam and trunk road dualling all consume structural concrete in large, steady volumes. Second, power and water infrastructure — the Julius Nyerere hydropower scheme and rural water programmes. Third, the shift of government activity to Dodoma, which has pulled commercial and residential construction inland.

The practical consequence for a plant buyer is that your site is often well inland, fed by grid power that sags during peak hours. A plant sized at 60-120 m³/h with a generator backup plan suits most Tanzanian contractors better than a large plant that assumes stable power.

Shipping from China to Tanzania

Plants leave our factory in Zhengzhou by truck to Tianjin or Qingdao, then ship to Dar es Salaam. An HZS60 or HZS90 loads into 2-3 × 40ft containers, with cement silos carried as breakbulk or flat-rack cargo.

Transit is 25-32 days port to port. Add 7-14 days for clearance at Dar and inland transport — longer if the site is in Mwanza, Kigoma or the southern highlands rather than Dar or Morogoro.

Tanzania requires a TBS PVoC (Pre-shipment Verification of Conformity) certificate for imported machinery, issued through an authorised agent such as SGS, Intertek or Bureau Veritas. We complete the factory inspection before the container leaves; without the certificate the shipment cannot clear at Dar es Salaam.

Import Duty and Landed Cost in Tanzania

Cost itemRate / amount
Import duty (HS 8474.31)Typically 0-10% of CIF for capital machinery — classification decides it
VAT18% of CIF + duty
Port, clearing and inland transport$2,000 – $6,000 depending on final site
Indicative landed cost factor1.20 – 1.40× CIF

Duty rates and exemptions change, and capital-goods treatment depends on how the plant is classified. Confirm the rate with your clearing agent against the current TBS/TRA tariff before you commit — we supply the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin that they will ask for.

Used plants are assessed on an age-based value, which can lower the customs figure but usually triggers a physical inspection at Dar. Confirm the assessment route before buying a second-hand unit.

Installation and Local Support in Tanzania

Foundation drawings are issued before the plant ships, so your civil contractor can pour the base while the containers are at sea. Our engineers then handle mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, weighing calibration and test batches — typically 21-30 days from arrival to first concrete.

Wear parts — mixer blades, liner plates, load cells, conveyor belts, pneumatic valves — are held in stock for air freight or express sea freight, so a breakdown at a site near Mwanza does not mean a three-month wait.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a concrete batching plant cost in Tanzania?

FOB China prices start at roughly $45,000-$75,000 for an HZS60 and $65,000-$95,000 for an HZS90. An HZS120 runs about $85,000-$130,000. Landed cost in Tanzania is typically 1.20-1.40x CIF once import duty, 18% VAT and Dar es Salaam port charges are added.

How long does shipping to Tanzania take?

25-32 days port to port from Tianjin or Qingdao to Dar es Salaam, plus 7-14 days for clearance and inland transport. Sites in Mwanza, Kigoma or the southern highlands take longer than Dar or Morogoro.

Do I need TBS PVoC certification for Tanzania?

Yes. Tanzania requires Pre-shipment Verification of Conformity for imported machinery, issued by an authorised agent such as SGS or Intertek. We arrange the factory inspection and certificate before shipment; without it the container will not clear at Dar es Salaam.

Can you ship through Dar es Salaam to Zambia or DRC?

Yes. Dar es Salaam is the main corridor for Zambia, DRC, Rwanda and Burundi. We prepare the transit documentation and can quote CIF Dar or delivered to the border, depending on how your clearing agent wants to handle the transit.

Do you provide installation in Tanzania?

Yes. Our engineers travel to site for mechanical assembly, electrical connection, weighing calibration and test batches, and train your operators. Foundation drawings are issued before shipment so civil work can run in parallel with the sea freight.

Will the plant run on unstable grid power?

The plant itself will, but batching accuracy and cycle times suffer when voltage sags. Size a generator for the mixer and controls at minimum, and prefer a plant with a control system that tolerates voltage fluctuation. We can specify the generator rating with the quotation.
